July 30, 2008 DIVA meeting

Edgar Flores, Eric Foxall, Allison Lenters, Zoe MacDougall, Bob Pritchard, Ying Yin,

Status of backup systems: server backups still have not been implemented.Gregor said that backups should be done on the
new MAGIC server. Sid will need to work this out.

Reports from:

Eric: has implemented the glove-to-vizeme mapping for single emotion vizemes. We will video
some of this on Friday. Eric gave Helene the latest glove yesterday to work on some repairs. We
have had issues with shorts causing problems in the output. Ying: Working on the source angle correction for pitch mapping. It turns out that we can change the
frame of reference for the source by indicating the degree offset, which would have the Polhemus
look after all the angle conversions. Allison: has been implementing a more sensitive Inspector that allows users to see how the computer
is interpreting all the data

Zoe still needs ethics clearance via Eric V-B to do the interviews with researchers and subjects. Bob will follow up with Eric VB on this. Zoe will email Marguerite to set up a regular video time each week. We would want the data recorded by the DIVA recorder as well,
as part of the documentation.

Bob suggested that Marguerite, Meryn, and Eric VB's lab come up with three or four sentences that contain all of the vowels, stops,
and consonants. We can use these each week as test sentences for videoing and data recording.

[N.B. not mentioned in the meeting: the IEEE Wearables wants some shots for the cover of their program -- Bob will try to look after this.] New equipment for the video suite is coming.

Bob suggested that Allison could activate the wired glove for practice/development sessions as well during September. The repaired
Bluetooth glove is supposed to arrive later this week or next.

The user manual is currently being written in Word. Bob prefers the formatting of Word, but we will eventually switch it over to the wiki
so it can be updated more readily for users.

The new footpedals have arrived so we can start testing them out for use and portability.

Bob suggested that before everyone leaves during the last week of August we might want to have a general presentation for Computer
Science, Engineering, Music, Linguistics, and Psychology. The presentation could take the format of a salon off campus. Bob will
discuss this with Sid.

[Given the travel and registration costs for the Wearables and the need to have someone there who can explain the system Bob will be
going to Pittsburgh to give the poster.]
