April 4, 2008 DIVA Group Meeting

Introduction of Kozaburo and Zoe to the group.

Status of job advert: contacted by Ananya Misra from Perry Cook’s Princeton Lab. Sid has contacted her and sent her the ad.

Scaling issues/solutions: Bob has run into serious latency problems with the XY coordinates. Removing the post from inside the Polhemus object may fix that problem.

Helene and paper for IEEE Wearable Symposium: Walk The Walk, Talk the Talk. Helene, Sid and Bob are working on this paper.

Allison has received a USRA for the summer. She did her 402 presentation yesterday and now needs to write up her report. Bob and Sid can help out on this.

Ying is working on the threading problem for the serial port. Max/MSP does provide an API for threading (Sid supplied an example.) Also working on her EC496 end of term report.

Kait/Adriano: no recording since the first two runs. Some issues with software compatibility but this looks like it will be able to be overcome.

Zoe: Will need access to each of the groups for documentation. Is interested in investigating a Standard Grant application for herself and student archivist. Sid will work with Zoe to prep grant applications.

A general discussion about funding opportunities ensued. Posible bridge funding available because of our project being included in the CFI that Arts and Sciences is preparing with regard to the new Music building. VP Research office handles this. Other suggestions included looking at a Piper Grant and working with Great Northern Way.

Marguerite: discussion of removing boundaries and Tracker position. For now ignore the Tracker information. Bob expects to have this issue solved soon, at the same time as the scaling issues are resolved.

In the next meeting we need to work on an immediate timeline with milestones.

Travel plans for DIVA group members over the next four months: Bob will send out an email asking for everyone’s travel plans so we can coordinate developments with peoples' availability.

Discussion about what is needed to get things ready for Eric’s lab, and papers for AVSP, ICLSP.

Eric and Rena have received a CURA Grant. There is possibility of including the DIVAs in that as part of the Community Outreach component. This could be useful for future funding and research directions.
